The Normandy Campaign:  June and July 1944, Stephen A. The Household Cavalry Regiment, Roy Manser, Almark, London, 1975.  80 pages of extraordinary detail about the badges, uniforms, orders of dress and horse furniture of The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals, complete with many fine B&W photos and 16 pages of full color.  Another "must" book for anyone interested in the subject.  Softbound, fair condition--the book got damp at some point, and a number of pages are a bit rippled and there were a number of spots where they stuck together.  They've all been separated, and there are places where there was surface damage--but it's all there and readable, just not in the best possible condition.  ISBN 85524-235-3$5.00

The Burma-Siam Railway:  the Secret Diary of Dr. Robert Hardie 1942-45, Imperial War Museum, London, 1984.  Hardie (1904-73) was a doctor with the Federated Malay States Volunteer Force who was captured at Singapore, and kept a diary throughout his imprisonment.  The book is illustrated with many of Hardie's beautifully rendered pencil drawings and watercolors from his time as a prisoner.  Splendid book! Hardbound w/dust jacket, 192 pages, like new condition.  ISBN 0-901627-26-7.  $12.50

The Way Back, Vincent Brome, The Companion Book Club, London, n.d. but circa late 1950s.  Story of Belgian Dr. Albert Guerisse, known during World War II as Lt Cmdr Pat O'Leary, when he won the George Cross, among any other decorations, heading a network to aid Allied airmen and soldiers to escape from France.  Betrayed and captured, he survived Dachau and later served with the Belgian Army in Korea.  One of the absolute heros of World War II--and still too little known.  Hardbound w/dust jacket, good condition but marred by substantial pencil underlining.  Maps, 13 B&W photos.  $10.00

Guerrilla Warfare, Albert "Yank" Levy, Penguin/Infantry Journal, New York, 7th ed. 1943.  An interesting paperback --and something of a World War II classic--written by a man who served in the British Army in World War I, in Spain, and then as a Home Guard instructor early in World War II.  Lots of drawings, very readable, 124 pages, paper yellowing, cover intact.  Good condition overall.  $4.00

Fire in the Night:  Wingate of Burma, Ethiopia and Zion, John Bierman and Colin Smith, Random House, New York, 1999.  Excellent biography of Orde Wingate, with focus on the roots of his idealism and zealotry, with valuable information about the early campaigns in Palestine and Abyssinia.  Hardbound w/dust jacket, 435 pages, many good B&W photos.  Excellent condition

India and the War, Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1915, intro by Lord Sydenham of Combe, former governor of Bombay.  The strength of this book is in the marvelously detailed and atmospheric watercolours of Indian Army uniforms painted by Major A.C. Lovett and originally published in The Armies of India.  There are 16 of these full color plates, each with descriptive notes, and there are also 16 B&W photos of various maharajas and Indian leaders, as well as a foldout map of India inside the back cover showing the various states and provinces.  A most useful book for anyone with an interest in this area!  Hardbound, 78 pages.  Spine reinforced with library tape and slightly loose from book in front, otherwise good/very good condition.  $50.00

A History of the Scottish Highlands, Highland Clans and Highland Regiments, with an account of The Gaelic Language and Literature and an Essay on Highland Scenery, edited by John S. Keltie, FSA Scot, A. Fullarton & Co. Edinburgh, 1875--in 8 volumes, each hardbound in 7-1/2"x11" size, each of about 200-225 pages.  A quite extraordinary and invaluable set of books in excellent condition, the only negatives being some page foxing/browning (to be expected after 135 years!) and the fading of the spines on five of the volumes.  Very ornate an gilt embossed covers, very good quality paper, many fine etchings of important personnages, tipped in full colour tartan plates...a tour de force done with all the care and attention to detail one would expect from late Victorian high-end books.  An absolute wealth of information for the serious Scots historian.  $600.00 the set of 8 volumes

The Brocade Banner:  The Story of Japanese Nationalism, a report done by GHQ SCAP, Civil Intelligence Section, dated 23 September 1946.  Legal size, printed from typed pages, paperbound, 166 pages.  Extraordinary report based largely on Japanese coup d'etat police and trial records from the 1930s.  Old SCAP GHQ Library pocket in back.  Complete, but fragile...paper was of poor quality, lots of browning and chipping. $20.00
